Chiba Green Variety
One packet of these seeds plant about a 100 ft. row, and the plant takes about 68 days to mature. They grow to create pods that yield about 2-3 seeds. Soybeans are very popular when used in the green shell stage, like a lima bean. They may also be dried on the stalk, then shelled and stored for later use in soups and stews. Excellent source of fiber and protein.
When and where to plant
Select a sunny location and plant when all danger of frost is past and the soil has warmed. For best results, loosen soil with spade or fork, fertilize with vegetable food and smooth with rake. Firm soil over seed and keep moist. Plant bush types every 3 weeks.
Care
Support pole beans with stout poles, trellis, string, or wire. Water by soaking soil, to reduce danger of disease.
Harvesting
Pick regularly when pods are 4-6”/10-15cm, or before sides bulge.
Health Note
A low calorie, high fiber source of minerals and vitamins.
